Waste Collection Challenge in May 2026

Participate in the Waste Collection Challenge of the working group sustainability by cleaning up your city and win great prices for the most collected trash or other fun categories!

Share the volume of your collected trash and pictures of your event until 10th of June with us!

The jGBM Trash-Picking Challenge is back—and it’s happening this May.

This initiative is simple, practical, and impactful. Across Germany, local jGBM city groups will come together to collect litter in their communities, contributing to cleaner public spaces while raising awareness about environmental responsibility in science and beyond. It is not about perfection or scale—it is about participation and visibility. Every collected bag of waste sends a message.

Why join?
Because sustainability does not start in policy papers—it starts with individual action. As scientists and students, we are in a unique position to lead by example, showing that responsibility for our environment is part of our professional and personal identity.

How to get involved

Participation is easy:

  • Reach out to your local jGBM city group
  • Join an existing clean-up event—or help organize one
  • Bring friends, colleagues, or lab mates
  • Share your experience and inspire others

If there is no event planned in your area yet, this is your opportunity to initiate one. The challenge thrives on local engagement, and every new effort strengthens the network.

Take the initiative

We encourage you to contact your city group today and become part of this collective effort. Whether you contribute one hour or organize a full event, your involvement matters.

Let’s demonstrate that sustainability in science is not just a concept—but a practice.

We look forward to seeing your impact. 🌍♻️
